Human Development and the Millennium Development Goals

Duration: 12 weeks
Presentation
In September 2000, 189 United Nations member states signed the United Nations Millennium Declaration and agreed to be united in a world effort to reach strategic development goals. One year later at the 56th meeting of the United Nations General Assembly, the General Secretary presented 8 objectives, 18 goals and 48 indicators as the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) and announced that these targets were to be reached by 2015.
Since the launch of the MDGs there has been some concern that they represent a minimal effort from the signatory countries. This course seeks to reflect on the relationship between HD and the MDGs, through the analysis of key concepts within HD and individual regional contexts and provides practical tools to help reach them.
