Indicators for Measuring HD

Type: Virtual

Language: Spanish

Level Education: Undergraduate/Graduate

Duration: 12 weeks

Presentation

The process for measuring Human Development (HD) can be complex and difficult, taking into consideration economic, social and political factors. There are many challenges that face the measurement of HD: lack of agreement around the definition and measurement indicators; different data gathering methods; and the diversity and quality of data available. Being conscious of these boundaries can help us understand that the indices can be limited and may not accurately measure the complexity of the concept of human development.

There are measurement indicators that enable us to identify disadvantaged population and/or socio economic factors causing deprivation and poverty, which can help us to design public policies to overcome these challenges. The indices serve as tools to identify the main problems and how to take action.

Far from being a course of advanced mathematics, the course seeks to offer basic methodological and theoretical concepts to understand the necessary instruments for the achievement of human development at a local, regional and national level.
