Democracy Theory

Presentation

 

Some political systems are called “democratic” when they do not fulfill, or do not entirely fulfill, the five basic characteristics of a modern democracy: pluralism, competition, elections, principle of majority rule, and constitutionalism. In order to address this reality, this course seeks to clarify the theoretical bases of democracy as a form of government but also a set of values. The course analyses the challenges facing these systems.

 

Course Structure

 

The course is structured to be completed in 13 weeks and this includes 7 subject topics and 2 weeks for course introduction and closing. The introduction includes a course summary, and the closing unit invites participants to assess the course according to the below structure:
